Discussion question:
The Chronicle of Higher Education, in a special report dated January 4, 2016, stated the following: “A new education landscape is emerging. Colleges are changing how they operate and how they teach, under pressure from lawmakers, parents, and students to respond to new economic realities.” This assertion suggests that not only are changes occurring at the macro- or policy level, but accountability is impacting how individual institutions think and behave, and not only administratively. As you read and reflect on the areas of concern and impact of the external accountability movements, what implications, if any, might these calls for accountability have on how we think about our academic mission and our operations? How might our academic programs respond to these demands while remaining true to our liberal arts core?
