Soup & Substance -- Serving the Under-served: Trans and Queer Health Issues
On Thursday, September 14th, the University of Minnesota, Morris will be hosting the first ‘Soup and Substance’ of the semester. This month’s Soup and Substance is the first of a three part health series. This first event, entitled Serving the Underserved: Trans and Queer Health Issues, will focus on LGBTQIA2S+ in the US and the current political and social aspects affecting the community's health issues. The event is designed to provide an open forum for members of the Stevens County and UMM communities to discuss issues of local, regional, national and international importance.
Soup and Substance – so named for its pairing of a delicious free meal with meaningful dialogue – is open to all members of the community to share their experiences and perspectives. The event is intended to provide a space in which all voices can be heard, including those that are sometimes marginalized. The discussions are facilitated by a group of community and campus experts who have direct experience with the discussion topic.
The upcoming Soup and Substance will take place on Thursday, September 14th from 6:00-7:30pm. It will be hosted in Oyate found on the main floor of the Student Center. Everyone is welcome to join the discussion. Participants may arrive and/or leave the event at non-designated times. Each participant will receive and enjoy a free meal which includes a light soup, bread rolls, and beverage. Soup and Substance is sponsored by the UMM Office of Community Engagement.
