THE ARMED MAN: A MASS FOR PEACE, COLLABORATIVE CONCERT

The Morris Symphonic Winds, UMM alumni and faculty collaborate with East Central Minnesota Chorale, Unum Vox, Cambridge-Isanti Concert Choir and Mora High School Choir for a performance of The Armed Man - A Mass for Peace by Karl Jenkins.

UMM alumni taking part include Jessica Belcher '12, Jean Cochran '14, Maia Dalager '15, Miles DeBusso '13, Caitlin Drayna '13, Laura Holland '14, Lea Gilbertson '91, Ashley Koch '13, Erik Laska '13, Luciana Ranelli '14, Alex Rensch '15, Ed Rudolph, Hannah Skog '15, Luke Skrove '13, Elise Tuntland '15, Derek Zeimer '13.

The recently knighted Welsh composer, Karl Jenkins is, quite simply, a phenomenon in contemporary music, and this work is the primary explanation of his enduring popularity. Described by the New York Times as “rapturous, by turns visceral and ethereal… a firebomb of orchestral and human voice” it is dedicated to the victims of the Kosovo Crisis and is, like Benjamin Britten's War Requiem before it, an anti-war work. Jenkins’ writing for soulful solo cello in the Benedictus is sublime and the heavenly choral accompaniment truly transports you to another place.

The chance for UMM to collaborate with one of Minnesota’s top community choirs came about due to the family connections between faculty and ECMC. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to hear The Armed Man, live.

Tickets: Adults - $10, Students 12-17 - $5, Children under 12 – Free.
