Spring Festival Gala

You're invited to Spring Festival, organized by ISA, on Friday February 15 at 6:30 pm, in Oyate. There will be performances and dinner served. Tickets are $5 for students, and $12 for staff and faculty. ISA will be tabling in the Student Center selling tickets, and you can also purchase your ticket online (coming soon).

Spring Festival is the most traditional festival China. It is similar to the New Year but in the lunar calendar. It is a really big day to each Chinese no matter where they are. The older people in each family will get their children red packets to ask for lucky in the future year. In China often people celebrate Spring Festival with a family reunion dinner, people exchange gifts of money in red paper envelopes, they shoot fireworks, have public festivals and they decorate their windows and doors with paper cuts that have themes of good fortune, happiness, wealth etc.

Similar to horoscopes, each lunar year has an animal attached to it that has a special significance. This is the year of the Pig.. People born in the year of the Pig (1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019) are might not stand out in a crowd. But they are very realistic. Others may be all talk and no action. Pigs are the opposite.

ISA holds this event to try to let more people learn about this festival and see if foreign people can enjoy the event and the Chinese characteristic food. We also prepare the performance and some surprise gifts.

We hope you can celebrate with us! Bring your friends and family!
